Over the weekend…I met an immigration attorney in Sugarland. It’s South Houston area for those not familiar with Houston. This person is an amazing human being but she said something that stung me the wrong way.
She said, “Our website isn’t doing well because our clientele are almost solely non-English speaking (Spanish Speaking) masses. And they don’t usually go online to find attorneys like we Americans. They all simply work by referrals.”
Well let me tell you readers a few things about non-English speaking masses…America is loaded with non-English speaking masses and so is the rest of the world. China’s use of internet outweighs US by 3 to 1 (source). India is almost at par with us on internet use. But let’s not get caught up with numbers just yet. Remember, your customers may not be on the other side of the world. If that is the case, these numbers don’t matter to you. What should matter to you is that Houston is full of migrants that have pocket full of cash and they are ready to pay for your products and your services. Are you willing to miss your chances in gaining their businesses? And all this, just because you have this belief/disbelief that immigrants don’t use internet?
My friends, EVERYONE uses the internet. If you don’t believe me, go on Yelp! and you’ll see that the 2nd most reviewed restaurant in Houston at this time is Niko Niko’s Greek Restaurant. And 4th most reviewed is a Japanese. What am I saying here? I’m saying that those that have recently migrated to US, are very actively searching for good products and services online. And their next generation is extremely hi-tech. If your business has any online footprint and you do your Social Marketing and Search Engine Optimization, they will find you, Guaranteed! That’s the beauty of capitalism. One person’s money is as good as another. And you’d only be hurting your business by delaying or slowing down your online efforts.
